SOFFA (Significant Others, Family, Friends and Allies) of Transgender and Non-Binary Persons is a support group for those close to someone who is or feels they may be transgender, transsexual, gender non-binary or gender nonconforming.

We meet twice monthly, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6.30 – 8.00 at Johnson County Library meeting rooms.   If you need to join us virtually, email us and we can set up a Facebook video call!  Our aim is to help people handle their feelings, fears, hopes and learn to deal with the changes in their relationships, to help them adjust and to learn how to support their transgender/gender nonbinary person.  After most meetings, we go across to the Starbucks in Barnes & Noble across from Leawood Pioneer Library to chat further.  I also usually only delete old meetings out at the end of the month, so do not worry about if the group still exists if you can see earlier meetings than today’s date.  It does not auto-update.

Please note that in order to encourage open communication about concerns and questions, SOFFA meetings are restricted to non-transpersons.  We do have several socials during the year for the whole family to attend (if they wish to), and they are welcome to join the coffee session at Starbucks afterwards if they wish.

In our new (never post-COVID) world, we are having meetings in person and by video call, so that people who are not comfortable or able to meet face to face can still join us.   The in person part is at Leawood Pioneer Library at 4700 Town Center Drive, Leawood, KS 66211.  And message us for the video link, accessible by computer or phone app!
