In a somewhat famous incident, “44 men masquerading as women” were arrested at the Exotic Ball and Carnival, sponsored by the National Variety Artists. Several of those arrested were said to be facing charges of “impersonation and indecent exposure.” On the Miscellaneous Historical Images page you can find some photographs of persons being arrested.
